New Job

Almost a year ago, I left EnCana for the opportunity to become an in-house Landman. The job that I took right after EnCana, wasn't quite what I wanted, but it paid well and I got some great field experience. Ever since I left EnCana, I have had my eye on any opportunity to move in-house. About three months ago, I met an employee of a large independent oil company, he asked if anyone was interested in working for his company. I said yes and we talked for a little while (as it turns out, he is a Red Raider as well). I sent him my resume the next day. He got back to me quickly, but informed me that they did not have anything for me at that time but he would keep my resume on file. Well I thought I would never hear back from that company again.

One Friday evening about two months later, I got a call from someone else in that company. He told me where he got my resume and that he would like to interview me for an open position. I gladly accepted the invitation for the interview. The interview went really well and I was invited back about a week later for a second interview and to meet the VP of Land. This interview went really well and I was introduced to some of the people around the office and shown where my office would be if I were hired. This was shortly before the Christmas holiday season.

After I got back from the cruise I called them, and about a week and a half later, they called me and offered me the job! I have accepted it, and on January 28, 2008 I will start there. Accepting this job means that I have reached my goal of becoming an in-house Landman in less than a year after leaving EnCana. If I would have stayed at EnCana, the time frame that they gave me was 4-5 years to become an in-house Landman. My gamble paid off.

I will be responsible for running a crew of Landmen in a very northern state. This company drills almost exclusively for oil, not natural gas like the other companies I have worked for. My new office will be in Downtown Dallas, about 6 miles from my house. I will no longer have to drive 125 miles round trip to get to and from work. I am being brought on as a contractor, but their plan is to make me a full time employee as soon as they get the OK to fill a full time position. Once they do get the OK to fill it, it will be mine. It is a great opportunity for me. I will be able to work with other companies on deals, I will work with geologist and drilling engineers and I will have people in another state who report to me.

Enough already...what's the name of the company? Well I cannot tell you, at least not in this medium. The company is very concerned about keeping their business private. They do not want me posting their name on the internet and that is also why I have left the region of the country I will be working vague.

Alexis and I are thrilled about the new job. It is all-around better than the job that I have now.
